UNEP POLLUTION SURVEY - CH.6
Atlantis has been the subject of countless films, as has Nazi gold and oil polluting our oceans, but never have all these elements come together under one roof as a submarine movie. Aiming for a screenplay 90-110 pages max.
NORTH SEA CONSIDERED A HIGH POLLUTION RISK TO WILDLIFE
The UNEP, United Nations Environment Programme have been following the events in the North Sea with disbelief. On the one hand secretly applauding the daredevil antics of the Terramentals. On the other, aghast at the potential harm that oil pollution from such a large scale spill may represent to fisheries and other biodiversity, as may circulate and accumulate in the Arctic. They seek to prevent a wildlife catastrophe on top of the energy displacement issue, however temporary the energy issue, protection of the polar regions is of paramount importance.
For some time the Elizabeth Swann has been held in high esteem, with John Storm more than willing to go that extra mile, to survey the underwater city of Alexandria in the Mediterranean, and Port Royal in the Caribbean, in collaboration with Blue Shield. Thus the UN has on record, the amazing abilities of the subsea instrumentation array, that produces such incredibly detailed data sets.
As has become customary, Dr Roberta Treadstone of Newcastle University, makes first contact for her Parisian counterpart, Professor Jacques Pierre Daccord. Knowing that John is a soft touch for the ladies.
"Roberta Treadstone calling the Elizabeth Swann. Come in Elizabeth Swan. Over."
Onboard the Swann, Hal has picked up the transmission, knowing that John knows everything he knows. "Will you get that skipper?"
"Thanks Hal, yes I'll take this one." Dan and Cleopatra chuckle. They know with John's virtual telepathy, that he's tapped into everything. But Dr Treadstone is unaware of that particular ability.
"Elizabeth Swann to Dr Treadstone, how are you Roberta? Over."
"Desperately in need of your services again John." John blushed, watching the quizzical look on Cleopatra's face. He waves his hand low, signaling to her that it means nothing. Cleopatra is of course feigning annoyance.
"How might I be of service Maam. I'll take a guess if you'll permit me. Over."
John mouths to Dan and Cleopatra. Bet it's the North Sea oil thing. Dan shakes his head, mouthing what North Sea thing? Cleopatra, nods in agreement, mouthing for sure.
"Okay John, you know don't you?"
"Could it be about a certain Royal Navy vessel. Perchance?"
"Spot on as usual John. UNEP want to know if you might be persuaded to geodata survey the affected area for them. The full Monty?"
"Thank you John. Trish is a lucky girl. Stay in touch, all of you."
Cleopatra blushed. "Hey, I'm the lucky one," said John. He took her hand in his.
"Get a room," said Hal and Dan together.
with the Terramental warnings to shut off deep sea collars,
the North Sea suffers considerable oil spills ...
The UN's Environment Programme ask John Storm to survey the North Sea for concentrations and flow pattern of oil pollution. The Elizabeth Swann passes the SSN, HMS Neptune as they negotiate the Straits of Dover. Hal picks up traces of radiation contamination on a course for Great Yarmouth.
PROPOSED STORY MAP BY CHAPTER (90-110 pages) - ORDER CAN BE CHANGED: DRAFT SCREENPLAY
CHAPTER 1. PROTESTS - Peaceful North Sea oil pollution protestors are framed and imprisoned, by a corrupt judicial system.
CHAPTER 5. BBC WORLD SERVICE - Jill Bird reports Terramentals rig attacks, world shocked at pollution cover up. Charley Temple investigates.
CHAPTER 7. RADIATION ALERT - John & Dan twig radiation from HMS Neptune possible serious reactor damage. Must warn Terramentals.
CHAPTER 8. STEALTH MODE - Storm spots Astute sub, Swann in stealth mode, detected as John warns extremists of sub radiation leakage.
CHAPTER 9. CHANGE OF COURSE - Terramentals change course, heading for the Straits of Gibraltar. Not believing radiation warning.
CHAPTER 12. REACTOR LEAK - Terramentals realise John telling truth, as radiation rector damage detection system HMS Neptune triggers.
CHAPTER 13. RESCUE TOW - John rescues Terramentals. MI6 order Neptune sinking. MOD knew reactor dangerous, want evidence gone.
CHAPTER 14. LISBON PORT - Terramentals & Storm, shut Neptune's reactor. Tow, stricken submarine to Lisbon, prevent MI6 sinking evidence.
Disillusioned eco activists are imprisoned by the British, for peacefully protesting in London about unrealistically low fines for oil spills in the North Sea, demonstrating strictly in accordance with their Article 9 and 10 Human Rights. They are targeted by fossil fuel industry fraudsters, who bribe police officials and court judges to secure a conviction, with the backing of corrupt ministers of state who have undeclared personal investments in oil drilling companies: Amoco, BP, Shell, Total. That sets in motion a train of events, where, having been framed, the ever more determined environmentalists build a mini-sub, fast enough and especially equipped, to sink or capture Astute, Aukus and US Seawolf class submarines. Having captured HMS Neptune, the Terramentals torpedo a BP owned rig, also destroying two others (Shell), with the looming threat to target all 150 plus, operating in the North Sea. The oil producers are temporarily forced to shut down production, as a result of the significant media coverage and public outrage on realization of the pollution. The UN asks John Storm to provide a geodata survey on the environmental damage.
