JOHN
STORM LOBBIES PARLIAMENT TO MAKE UP FOR CLIMATE CHANGE, NORTH
SEA OIL FRAUDSTERS
THE TIDE TURNS IN WESTMINSTER
The crisp London air, often thick with the scent of rain and history, now hummed with a renewed, if slightly chastened, energy. The recent revelations surrounding the North Sea oil fraud and the Ministry of Defence's (MOD) own shadowy dealings had sent a ripple of embarrassment through the highest echelons of British power. But from this discomfort, a new resolve emerged. The United Kingdom, with a surprising surge of political will, decided to embrace green hydrogen with an unprecedented zeal.
It was John Storm, however, who truly galvanized this shift into tangible action. Leveraging his newly acquired, if begrudging, influence, he embarked on a relentless lobbying campaign within the very hallowed halls of Parliament. He wasn't there for accolades, but for impact. His focus: securing H2 conversion grants for low-income families, a vital step towards democratizing the energy transition. This concession, a testament to his unwavering dedication, was heralded by veteran journalist Jill Bird in her "World News Roundup" as a critical move to drive "blue growth" – a term rapidly becoming synonymous with John's pioneering efforts.
ECHOES IN THE DEEP: THE NORTH SEA'S HIDDEN SCARS
With the political gears grinding, John and his stalwart crew aboard the Elizabeth Swann retraced their course, steaming northwards towards the North Sea. This was unfinished business, a survey abruptly interrupted by the frenetic chase of the Astute submarine. Now, with a grim determination, they embarked on a crude yet comprehensive grid pattern, traversing the turbulent waters west to east, then south to north.
Hal, the Swann's advanced AI, tirelessly compiled a colossal geodata set. What it revealed was far more disturbing than the initial reports of leaking rigs. The "oil rig central" region, a veritable industrial archipelago, harbored a contamination far exceeding anyone's direst predictions. Unexpected findings of radioactive deposits now surfaced, scattered along the coastline, hinting at a wider, more insidious spread of pollutants.
Yet, amidst this grim discovery, there was a stark, undeniable truth: with the three most egregious polluters gone, courtesy of the "Terramentals," oil pollution had visibly diminished. The radical protestors, despite their controversial methods, had been disturbingly, undeniably, right.
John presented these unsettling results to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), navigating the labyrinthine corridors of international bureaucracy. His findings first reached Dr. Roberta Treadstone, then ascended to
Professor
Jacques Pierre Daccord, before finally landing on the desks of the UNEP's highest officials. The gravity of his data was undeniable, and he was granted full authorization to share their findings with the media as he deemed appropriate.
A CALL TO ARMS, A JIBE AT THE TERRAMENTALS
The first call was to a familiar voice.
"Hello, John Storm here. I wondered if Jill Bird might have a moment?" he inquired, his voice calm amidst the usual BBC hum. The receptionist, recognizing the name now synonymous with oceanic intrigue, fast-tracked the call.
"Hi John! What's the latest? Another sunken treasure, or have you finally found where all my missing socks go?" Jill's voice was instantly warm, laced with her characteristic wit.
"Hello Jill. Well, we finally got to complete that North Sea survey," John began, his tone serious, "and it's not good. Much higher radioactive contaminant readings, and some surprise findings of radioactive particles. Possibly drifting from
Dounreay, maybe emanating from Hartlepool or
Sizewell
B. But the hydrocarbon situation, I'm pleased to report, is somewhat more satisfactory."
"So, maybe those Terramentals should just complete the job then, eh?" Jill joked, a hint of dark humor in her voice.
"Not far wrong there, Jill," John conceded, a wry chuckle escaping him. "With the Prime Minister reportedly quite unhappy with the entire situation, I wondered if there was more we, collectively, could do to rectify it?"
A LITTLE LOBBYING GOES A LONG WAY
The BBC's extensive coverage of John's findings sent shockwaves through Westminster. Almost immediately, the UK's Energy Minister contacted John Storm.
"Thank you for taking my call, Mr. Storm. Firstly, I'd just like to apologize for the rather… enthusiastic attention our
MOD paid you recently," the Minister began, his voice surprisingly deferential.
John, ever pragmatic, thought to himself how clearly one arm of the service – the corrupt few – seemed blissfully unaware of who was truly pulling the strings higher up.
"Thanks for that, Minister," John replied, cutting to the chase. "How may I help?"
"We were very impressed with the performance of your ship, the
Elizabeth
Swann," the Minister continued, a subtle shift in his tone towards flattery. "And the Prime Minister himself wonders how we might formally thank you for your most recent, shall we say, environmental intervention?"
Commander
Storm
paused for a moment, a flicker of an idea igniting behind his eyes. The wheels of his mind, always turning, began to spin faster.
A POLICY STORM
John Storm’s mind, accustomed to the roaring chaos of gales and the silent pressure of the deep, now navigated a different kind of tempest: the intricate currents of political will. The Energy Minister’s offer of gratitude was not merely an opportunity for personal gain, but a pivotal moment to steer the nation, and perhaps the world, towards a cleaner
horizon.
“Thank you, Minister,” John began, his gaze steady, devoid of avarice, filled instead with a quiet conviction. “If the Prime Minister genuinely wishes to express her gratitude, then I would ask for something far more significant than a medal or a commendation.” He leaned forward slightly, his voice gaining a subtle gravitas. “I ask for policy change. A bold, unwavering commitment to energy self-sufficiency, driven entirely by renewable resources.”
The Minister blinked, clearly anticipating a request for funding or perhaps a privileged contract. This was different.
“We need a comprehensive, strategically designed tapered taxation system,” John continued, elaborating on his vision. “One that doesn’t just nudge, but actively persuades investors to divest from the dying era of
fossil fuels and channel their capital into green electricity. Subsidies for solar, wind, tidal – real incentives that make clean energy not just an environmental choice, but an unassailably profitable one.”
The Minister scribbled a note, a flicker of genuine interest in his eyes. “That’s… ambitious, Mr. Storm. But certainly, within the realm of possibility. The shift is already underway.”
“Indeed,” John affirmed. “And speaking of shifts, you mentioned the Elizabeth Swann’s performance.” A subtle smile played on his lips. “She is, as you observed, an all-electric vessel, primarily powered by her extensive solar panels and her green methanol fuel cells. She is, dare I say, a living blueprint for the future of maritime transport.”
He paused, letting the implication hang in the air before delivering his next, more audacious proposition. “The Swann isn’t just a ship, Minister; she’s a proof of concept. I propose that the United Kingdom champion her, hold her up as a tangible example to the
International Maritime Organization (IMO), to the European Union, and to the world’s major shipbuilding nations – particularly China and South Korea, who churn out the vast majority of our global container fleet. Imagine the impact if they saw, firsthand, a high-speed, blue-water yacht running clean.”
The Minister's eyes widened. This wasn't just about domestic policy; John was thinking globally.
“And if I may be so bold,” John pressed on, sensing his advantage, “I would even beg that, where feasible, our British armed forces begin the transition to
Electric Vehicles (EVs) and
zero-emission warships. Excluding
nuclear
submarines, of course, for the moment. Until the world is truly stable again.” He added the caveat with a slight, almost imperceptible nod to the geopolitical realities, but his core message remained unshaken. “Leading by example, Minister, is the most potent form of diplomacy.”
As
a caveat, and just to bullet point the subject for later
discussion, John added, "Lastly, and I know this is a
stretch for another time. Please ask the PM and his
environment minister to look at reducing single use plastics
in packaging."
The Minister leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face. John Storm wasn't just a
treasure
hunter; he was a visionary, and a pragmatist. He had identified a leverage point and was using it to demand systemic change, not personal reward. The
Prime
Minister, he realized, would find this a most interesting “thank you.”

Disillusioned
eco activists are imprisoned by the British, for peacefully
protesting in London about unrealistically low fines for oil
spills in the North
Sea, demonstrating strictly in accordance with
their Article 9 and 10 Human Rights. They are targeted by fossil
fuel industry fraudsters, who bribe police officials and
court judges to secure a conviction, with the backing of
corrupt ministers of state who have undeclared personal
investments in
oil
drilling companies: Amoco, BP, Shell, Total. That sets in
motion a train of events, where, having been framed, the ever
more determined environmentalists build a mini-sub, fast
enough and especially equipped, to sink or capture Astute,
Aukus and US Seawolf class submarines. Having captured HMS Neptune, the Terramentals
torpedo a BP owned rig, also destroying two others (Shell),
with the looming threat to target all 150 plus, operating in
the North Sea. The oil producers are temporarily forced to
shut down production, as a result of the significant media
coverage and public outrage on realization of the pollution.
The UN asks John Storm to provide a geodata survey on the
environmental damage.
